Our Story
The Family Violence Legal Service Aboriginal Corporation (SA) was established in January 2011, with the amalgamation of three previously exisiting Family Violence Prevention Legal Services (Ceduna, Port Augusta and Port Lincoln) into one incorporated organisation which provides our services across all three regions.
Family Violence Legal Service Aboriginal Corporation acknowledges those who have survived family violence. Our work is inspired by the courage, strength and resilience shown through their shared experiences.
We also acknowledge the practitioners, services and organisations who walk alongside survivors on their journey to safety and recovery, and those who work it is to prevent violence before it occurs.
We would also like to express our appreciation for the continued support provided through Corporation Members, Board Members (past and present) and Employees.
Our Vision
A fair and safe society for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples free of family, domestic and sexual violence.
Our Purpose
We are an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation committed to delivering high quality, trauma-informed and culturally appropriate legal services, education and community partnership, to help vulnerable people facing disadvantage to navigate the legal system.
Our Underlying Principles
We acknowledge and respect those who fought for the establishment of Family Violence Prevention Legal Services to support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and we continue to build upon their work and dedication.
We recognise the lasting effects of intergenerational trauma and violence as a result of colonisation, and we pay respect to the resilience and strength of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
We work in partnership with the community because we respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples right to self-determination.
We believe that client safety and trust is created when we keep confidentiality and the centre of everything we do.
